A slow performing computer can be a result of various issues. By taking care of the following, you can increase the speed of your PC.

Too Many Programs

People tend to load a number of programs in their computer, some of which they never use and this contributes significantly towards slowing down the system. You may have a number of games installed that you no longer play now. These programs simply consume resources and adversely affect the performance of your computer. You should remove all those programs that you do not use and are unlikely to use in the future. You can perform the following steps to remove these programs:  
  1. Click on ‘Start’ and then select ‘Control Panel’.
  2. On the control panel window select ‘Add or Remove Program’ and then click on ‘Remove Programs’.
  3. Select the program you do not use and then click on remove/change.
  4. Remove the program as per the wizard.
Cluttered volume

By defragging your hard disk volumes, you can significantly increase the speed with which folders or applications can be accessed. Defragmentation is a process which analyzes local drives through a program called disk fragmenter and arranges files and folders in such way that each of them occupies a single, juxtaposed space on the drive. Defragmentation of hard drive enables your computer to access files and folders efficiently and quickly. This process may take plenty of time as it moves each file and collects the data at contiguous locations. You can follow the below step to defrag your drives:

Follow these simple steps to increase your system's performance.
  1. Click on ‘Start’ and then point to ‘Accessories’ in ‘All Programs’ menu.
  2. Click on ‘Disk Defragmenter’ in the ‘System Tool’ menu.
  3. Select the drive that you want to defragment and click on ‘Defragment’.
  4. The Defragmentation display shows the result once the process is completed.
  5. To view the Defragmentation report click on ‘View Report’. This report gives a detailed account of the defragmented volume.
Disk Clean up

You can remove temporary files, old chkdsk fils, recycle bin’s file and other unused files to enhance the performance of your system.  To perform a disk clean up, you can follow the below steps:
  1. Click on ‘Start’ and then point to ‘Accessories’ in ‘All Programs’ menu.
  2. Click on ‘Disk Cleanup’ in the ‘System Tool’ menu.
  3. Select the drive you want to clean and then click ‘OK’.
  4. Clean all drive by repeating the process.
Corrupt registry
